Mr. Larry Augustus Alleyne, Jr., age 80 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.

The Obituary

Mr. Larry Augustus Alleyne, age 80, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.

Larry was born on June 19, 1943. He is the oldest child born to the late parents, Larry A. Alleyne, Sr. and Beatrice Lee Alleyne.

Larry attended Saint Peter Claver in Brooklyn, New York. He loved basketball, drawing, and carpentry. He made a breakfast tray for his mother. His nickname was “Bear” because he would always grunt and growl when you asked him a question. Larry also attended Eli Whitney High School (Vocational) and graduated with the class of 1961.

Larry was married to Betty J. Alleyne for ten years.

He was a part of a singing group called the “4 Exceptions” back in the 60’s in NYC. He was in a movie named “Hell up in Harlem” acting as a hospital security guard. Larry was a hairdresser to many, including James Brown, “The Godfather of Soul” for years. Larry droves buses for the MTA in NYC and the school system in Kansas City, Missouri.

Larry moved to NC to be closer to his children and grandchildren in 2010 from Brooklyn, NY. His favorite things to eat were ice cream, peppermints, and McDonald’s. His favorite past time was going to the Enrichment Center in Sanford, NC to mingle and of course to eat.

Larry’s sense of humor was different from most, so you had to know him to understand and to love him as we all did.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Larry A. Alleyne, Sr. and Beatrice Lee Alleyne; one brother, James (Sonny) Lee; and one son, Vernon Alleyne.

Left to cherish his fond memories are two daughters, Yvette R. Alleyne (NC) and Kim T. Alleyne (SC); four grandchildren, Shanice Wilson (SC), Eryck Alleyne, Brenden Headen, and Brenee Headen (NC); one sister, Venus Matthews (Maryland); one adopted grandson, Jalyn Mason (NC), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, who loved him dearly.
