Kristy Joy (Brower) Gillis

Mrs. Kristy Joy Gillis, age 44 of 112 Madison Road, Carthage, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, NC. 

Kristy Joy Brower Gillis, daughter of the late Ella Tywanna Jean Brower Martin and Lendon Walden, was born on June 10, 1977. She peacefully departed this life on October 13, 2021, at the age of 44, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.

Kristy was raised in Robbins NC for the majority of her life. She was a graduate of North Moore High School in Robbins NC and was a member of her family church: New Zion AME Zion Church. Kristy served in the Junior Choir for many years. She completed an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development at Sandhills Community College.

Kristy and Steve married on June 7, 2003, and started their family in Moore County. Kristy had a love for children and opened her very own child daycare center called, “Mrs. Kristy’s Playhouse” where for over 10 years, she cared and showed love to many children. Kristy and Steve attended The Recovery Room Ministries” church in Carthage NC for several years.

Kristy had the gift of “gab” as she use to so put it, and had a way of connecting to people. She never met a stranger and never had a problem showing hospitality to those in need. Kristy would give her last dollar to help others and was often seen sharing her family, her home, and her love for others. She loved children and treated them as if they were her own. Over the last few years, Kristy held on to this life’s journey for her most precious possessions her 3 babies. She will be greatly missed by her children, her family, a host of friends, and others who loved her dearly.

Kristy was preceded in death by her mother: Ella Tywanna Jean Brower Martin. She is survived by her husband: Steve Gills of Carthage NC, Eight Children: Devonne Gillis, Taqueshia Patterson (Josh), Rasheed Gillis, Treniece Gillis, Emanuel Gillis, Kristen Jackson, Steven Gillis, and Sayvion Gillis. Father: Gerald Martin Sr. and Lendon Walden. Brothers: Gerald Martin Jr. and Jermaine Kelly. Sisters: Keisha Elliott (Terrell) and Lashawn Martin. A host of special grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A special “Son-in-law”: Yahlik Taylor.
Special friends. Rashauna Cochran, Joshua Spencer, and Crystal Singletary and a host of aunties, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends, and coworkers.
