The Obituary

Mr. Kenneth Dwayne Reid Sr., who left us unexpectedly and peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024. He was 59 years old.

Mr. Kenneth Dwayne Reid Sr., affectionately known as Kenny, was born on August 31, 1964, in Merced, California to the Late Wallace Reid and Janet (Wiggins) Bluford. He grew up in Atwater/Merced California, where he developed a reputation for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering sense of integrity. He was known for his gentle spirit, his infectious laughter, and his profound love for his family and friends.

Kenny attended Atwater High School where he excelled as an all-around athlete, as well he was a member of a successful pop-locking dance group. He graduated from Atwater High school with the class of 1982.

After graduation, he attended Sacramento City College. He was then introduced by family to the love of his life Kim N. (Ryals) Reid. Shortly after, Kenny joined the military to serve his country in the United States Army where he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Excelsior College and retired as a CW3 (promotable) after 23 years of service. Kenny could not leave his calling to protect and serve and decided to continue his efforts as a civilian working for the United States Department of Army at Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) as logistic officer, then worked as a federal contractor with L-3 solutions as logistics specialist, and then finally he joined the Forces Command (FORSCOM) as a G-4 logistics officer.

Kenny was dedicated to his profession, excelling in his field, and earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in everything he did.

Above all else, Kenny cherished his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. His greatest joy in life was being a father to his children Sachiko Monique (Reid) Woods and Kenneth Dwayne Reid Jr., and proud Papa to his grandchildren. His love knew no bounds, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Throughout his life, Kenny touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. His willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need left an indelible mark on the lives of many. He was known for his passion for playing golf, being a sports enthusiast (GO Lakers and Raider Nation), and for traveling and visiting his favorite stadiums and arenas. Kenny was a dedicated master griller, mentor, youth sports coach for several teams in the area and a distinguished member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Kenny bought his dream RV to be used as a home away from home. He found joy in simple pleasures and shared this enthusiasm with those closest to him, creating countless cherished memories along the way.

He was preceded in death by his father Wallace Reid and father-in-law Nathaniel Ryals. Grandparents, James and Tollie Reid, Lee and Mary E. Wiggins, and Rachel Brown-Thomas (in-law). Also, by his uncles, Gerald (Buddy) Wiggins, Robert Wiggins, and Donald Wiggins.

He leaves to honor and cherish his memories: wife, Kim Natalia Reid of Fayetteville, NC; daughter, Sachiko (Rodney) Woods of Villa Rica, GA; son, Kenneth (Karla) Reid Jr. of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Walter Christmas, Kyrie Reid, Chrisitan Woods, Kenley Reid, Kiyomi Reid, and Zoey Woods; mother, Janet Bluford and bonus Father Stephen Bluford of Pico Rivera, CA; sister, Patrica Reid of Sacramento, CA; Uncle Orville Wiggins, Sacramento, CA; aunts, Norma Smith and Barbara McClain of Sacramento, CA, and Audrey Wiggins of Atwater, CA; mother-in-law, Jean Singleton-Brown-Ryals, of New York City, New York; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michelle (David) Theophilus of Sacramento, California, Michael (Kendra) Ryals of Boca Raton, Florida, Angela Jones of Brooklyn, New York, Peggy Ryals of Fayetteville, NC, Betrice Lopez of Sanford Florida, Arence (Deona) Ryals of Franklin, New Jersey, and Jean (Tommy) Pearce of Wilmington, Delaware; and a list of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kenny leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and wisdom that will continue to inspire and uplift us in the days ahead. Though he may be gone, his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
