Julia Alston Obituary

Mrs. Julia Mae Alston, age 85 of 954 East Alston Street, Pittsboro, NC passed on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at The Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro, NC.

Julia Mae, affectionately referred to as "Sis" was a life-long resident of Pittsboro, NC.  She was born the youngest of two on January 2, 1933 to the union of Willie S. Alston and Alene Alston of Pittsboro, NC.  She attended the Shiloh School with her brother Willie, which she started early to accompany Willie who was afraid to walk to school alone.

Julia joined church at an early age and was a long-time member of the usher board at Mitchell Chapel Church.  She was also civically engaged with the Council on Aging.  She had a variety of employment throughout her career including the Flower Farm of Pittsboro and a dry-cleaners in Siler City.  For many years she rose before daybreak to work and support her family at the Webster Poultry Plant in Pittsboro.  When she retired from Webster, she dedicated her time to her family.

Throughout her life, she cherished time with family and friends.  She hosted many family Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings.  At any time, one of her crafts could be seen on display around her home.

In December of 1949, she married the love of her life, Clyde Thomas Alston from Siler City, NC, to which, four children were born,  Joyce, Edna Lorine, Clyde Edward and Thomas Earl.  Julia and Clyde are now together again.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie S. Alston and Alene Alston; her brother, Willie Alston; her husband, Clyde Thomas Alston; her son, Clyde Edward Alston and grandson, Thomas Carnell Alston.

Julia loved finding a good sale while shopping, arts and crafts, game shows, word search puzzles and spending time with family and friends. 

Julia Mae is survived by her children: Joyce Davis (Conrad) of Richmond, Virginia, Edna Lorine Cogdell (Calvin) of Fayetteville, NC, Clyde Thomas Earl Alston (Jennifer) of Pittsboro, NC; daughter-in-law, Sandra Alston of Greensboro, NC; nine grandchildren Brandon and Brittany Davis, Kimberly Cogdell Grainger, Byron Cogdell, Shannon Alston, Jasmine Alston, Crystal Dowdy, Decie Alston and Leighia Alston; seven great-grandchildren: Elijah Davis, Elyse Boies, Royce Grainger, Parker Cogdell, Robyn Cogdell Ja'Ciyon Scales and Mirakel Alston a host of other relatives and friends. 

Julia Mae Alston left her earthly home and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 15, 2018.  She will be greatly missed.
