Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juan (Johnny) Tillman, who departed this life on March 15, 2025, at WakeMed in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was 54 years old.

Born on July 10, 1970, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Johnny was the son of Eli Tillman and Renate Tillman. He spent his early childhood in Sacramento, California, before returning to North Carolina. A dedicated and passionate individual, Johnny pursued his calling in mortuary science, undertaking his apprenticeship in Sanford under the guidance of his grandfather, Harvey Knotts. He furthered his education at Fayetteville Technical Community College, laying the foundation for a career he deeply cared about.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Eli Tillman; mother, Renate Robertson; grandfather, Harvey Knotts; and one brother, Pierre McDougald.

Johnny's commitment to his profession in mortuary science was evident to all who knew him. Beyond his work, he had a zest for life, particularly enjoying the thrill of fast cars. However, his greatest joy and the center of his world were his beloved children. Johnny was known for his generous spirit and willingness to go above and beyond for those he held dear.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in his three daughters: Nisjah, Willissa, and Hailey; one brother, William McDougald; one sister, Nicole Willoughby (Darryl); his former wife, Joan Dial; one son-in-law; and his two cherished granddaughters. He will also be deeply missed by his longtime friend and caretaker, Misty Melby, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
