Joycelyn Loretta Simmons, age 35 of 3220 Golden Nugget Dr., Clayton, NC passed on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.
On Thursday, October 6, 1983, the world welcomed Joycelyn “Joy” Loretta Simmons and the world released Joy into God’s forever presence on Thursday, September 12, 2019. Wherever and whomever Joy came in contact with she left a lasting impression that you could and be better regarding of the situation. She pushed you to be better and to do better in your life with God.
Joy was all about family, ministry, and an Entrepreneur at heart. Out of all of these, her passion was singing for God. She started singing at the age of two with her first solo being the hymn, "Pass it On". From the days of singing in the Sunshine Band at Calvary Temple UHC to being an Atmosphere Changer (Provision Worship Leader). Joy allowed the gift that God placed in her to change the lives of those who heard her. She was a vocalist with several artist across all genres. She found a special place in Christian Provision Ministry as she faithfully served under the leadership of Bishop Charles and Pastor Patti Mellette. She was a leader over several departments and a Liaison of Influence in the manifestation of God's Vision within the ministry such as but not limited to: The Music Executive Board, Provision Worship, PDY Youth Cypher, YGB Praise Team & Choir Overseer in all things in the Creative Arts Department.
Family was near and dear to her heart. She always wanted her family to be together. Her saying was "No matter what happens, at the end of the day, we are family!" One of her favorite quotes on family was "Family is like music, some high notes, some low notes but always a beautiful song." Everyone loved Joy or as we all called her, JoJo.
Joy was blessed with a gift of creativity which she turned into entrepreneurship. She birthed two businesses, one was Inside Out Beauty where the vision was to bring the beauty inside out of the individual and AC (Atmosphere Changer) Design. She was also a representative for Mary Kay and Avon Company. Her biggest motivator behind her businesses was her son, Ethan James Purvis.
Joy’s ever-loving spirit walks with her son, Ethan James Purvis; the love of her life, William Purvis; parents, James and Pamela Simmons; sister, Olivia Simmons; family in love, Ada, Jerry, Jayvon and Jaylen Purvis and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
