Joseph Thomas ("JT") Smith

Mr. Joseph Thomas "JT" Smith, age 72, of Sanford, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.

Joseph Thomas Smith “JT” was born in Sanford, NC on April 10, 1950, to the late Henry and Ethel Smith. He departed this life on February 20, 2023, at Central Carolina Hospital.

JT attended W.B. Wicker School in Sanford. While attending school he worked at Lee County Hospital and later went to work at Saco Lowell in Sanford. After they closed the plant, he went to work for The City of Sanford until his health failed.

JT was a humble and God-fearing man who loved his family and everyone he met.  JT always had a word of God and a prayer for everyone he encountered.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Ethel Smith, six brothers: John Henry Smith, Clifton “Bro” Smith, Lewis “Jr.” Smith, William “Albert” Smith, James Belvin Smith, and Donnie Smith. two sisters: Mary “Sis” McLean and Carolyn Smith.

He leaves to mourn his cherished memories four children; three sons, Johnathan Brown of Siler City, NC, Patrick Clegg (Bre) of Sanford, NC, and Rodney Clegg (Moop) of Sanford, NC; one daughter: Tanisha Clegg (Robert) of Spring Lake, NC; “JT” was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Tre, Deyunta, Liyah, Courtney, Christian, Lil RJ, Naquan, Lil Pat, Amunique, Reni, Dee’dra, Khi’lay, and Destiny; one great-grandson, Kaiden Clegg; two sisters in law: Hazel Smith of Sanford, NC and Carolyn Smith of Sanford, NC; two dear friends: Ann Clegg of Sanford, NC and Rose Brown of Siler City, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
