Mr. Joseph Garfield Cox Jr., age 77 of Sanford, NC transitioned into eternal rest, Monday, April 5, 2021, at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford, NC.
Joseph Garfield Cox, Jr was the oldest son born February 28, 1944, to the late Josephus and Juanita Cox. He went home to be with his Lord on Monday, April 5, 2021, at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, NC.
Garfield as he was affectionally called grew up and attended school in the Lee County School System. He was married to the late Emmalene Johnson Cox for over 40 years and they were blessed with two daughters. He worked at Moncure Plywood for 32 years before retiring. Garfield enjoyed bowling, watching wrestling, and westerns. His time singing and playing his instruments allowed him to share his loving heart and bring joy to everyone.
Garfield was a devoted member of Star of Hope OFW Baptist Church where he attended Sunday School and was one of the lead singers in the Mighty Stars of Hope Male Chorus. He would often get requests to sing a few signature songs such as “I Believe I’ll Run On,” “At The Close Of The Day” and one song that shares his sentiments even today “I’m Free”.
Those left to cherish his memories are Two “Daddy’s Girls” Elaine Cox and Joyce Cox both of Atlanta, GA. Two sisters: Betty Kelly-Lee and Sylvia Judd (Howard) of Sanford, NC; one brother: Robert Cox, Sr. (Jobe) of Greensboro, NC; two sisters-in-law: Brenda Bright and Mary Woods Hooker of Sanford, NC. Grandchildren: Tiffany McLean, Darius Cox, Darail Cox, Nicholas Quick, Shante Cox, and Jerimiah Cox; great-grandchildren: Janiya Currie, Kari Molloy, Jayla Peoples, C. J. Peoples, Syir Cox, and Ayanis Davis and a host of relatives and friends.
