Obituary

Rev. John K. Stokes Sr., JD, a beloved husband, brother, great-grandfather, and man of God, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14th, 2025.

John leaves a legacy of courage, strength, and love for his family and friends. John accepted Christ as his Savior. He joined his family's congregation at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Sanford, North Carolina, where he served as the Associate Pastor until his passing. While in Durham, NC he worshipped at Union Baptist Church.

As a lawyer, John upheld justice and stood for truth and honesty. He served our nation with honor and pride in the United States Air Force and the United States Army. John's greatest pride was his family. He was a man of quiet strength, endless compassion, and unwavering dedication to God, family, and friends. To know him was to know a steady presence with a kind heart and jovial nature.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Stokes; mother, Mary Lynn Springer, and one grandson, Jayvon Pryor.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Pamela Humphrey-Stokes; children, grandchildren, a great-grandchild, as well a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and a
lively congregation.
