John Lynn Obituary

Mr. John Paul (Dee) Lynn, age 89 of 104 Toomer Loop Rd., Pittsboro, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 7, 2020, at his residence.

Early  in the morning of October 7, 2020,  the Lord whispered to SFC John P. Lynn, “Soldier, you have served your country and me well. Well done thy good and faithful servant...come on home.” John Paul Lynn or “Dee”, as he was affectionately known and the oldest son of the late John and Fannie Lynn was born June 22, 1931 in Chatham County, North Carolina.

Reared in Pittsboro, NC, Dee spent his early years as a member of Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church.  He also would attend Mt. Sinai AME Church in his adult years.  He graduated from Horton High School in 1950. This proud Thunderbolt then entered the US Army where he served as an infantryman in Korea and Germany during the Korean War from 1951-1955 . SFC Lynn then returned home to Chatham and worked at the Pittsboro Poultry Plant where he met his future wife.  Later he worked at Allied Fibers for over 20 years and finally for the Chatham County School System as a custodian at North Chatham Elementary School where he was dearly loved and deeply respected.

In 1972, Dee married the love of his life, Sophia Mae Bland Lynn, also of Pittsboro who preceded him in death. In addition to his wife and parents, his sister, Bertha F. Bruton and baby brother, Benjamin Wesley Lynn (Paulette) preceded him in death as well.

His witty sense of humor and loving spirit made this brother, dad, grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend a joy to be around.  Dee loved spending time with his family and this family historian could tell you all about his family tree as well as yours.

Left to share loving and fun-filled memories are his children Charlie Bland, Barbara B. Lawes (Danny), Mary B. Headen, Rev. Robert Bland (Easter) and Howard Bland (Cynthia); sisters Mary Lynn Reaves (Walter), Josephine Lynn Lightsey, Mamie Lynn and sister-in-laws Paulette Poe, Doreatha Leak, Bessie Sigler.  Sonja Headen, Tracee Lawes, Tameka Johnson, Tanika Bland, and Tamara Johnson all loved their Grandpa; great-grandchildren, Adrian Jones, Cameron Goins, C'Majae Harrison, Ca'Mari Benjamin, Amira James.   He also leaves a host of cousins, friends, nieces and nephews, particularly his special niece and nephews Kimberly Lightsey, Andy Lightsey (Pam), Pierre Reaves, Kevin Lynn, Akera King (Trevor) and Drew Lightsey (Emily), Brenda Marsh, Easter Bland (Robert), Charles Bruton (Eyvonne), Nettie Bruton, William Bruton (Laurita) who will cherish him always.
