Mr. John Emory Cotten, Jr., age 73, of Liberty, North Carolina entered eternal rest on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
John Emery “Bro” Cotten, Jr., 73, of Liberty, NC passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro, NC after a two day stay.
John was born on October 16, 1950, in Pittsboro, NC to the late John Emery Cotten, Sr, and Georgia Belle Alston Cotten.
John was a graduate of Horton High School Class of 1968, where he was well known for his athleticism, especially in basketball. In 2015, he was inducted into the Horton High School Hall of Fame for his phenomenal basketball skills. John was also an avid baseball and softball player, traveling for many years with various recreational leagues.
In addition to sports, John was a car enthusiast. Some of his favorite pass times were attending car shows and races. John would spend countless hours outside detailing and working on cars. He also enjoyed boating and fishing.
In 1971, John joined Job Corps in Morganfield, Kentucky and earned certification as a Tune Up Analytics Specialist. John was employed for many years as a maintenance mechanic for various manufacturing companies. He was most recently employed at Publix Receiving and Distribution Center in Greensboro, NC until his health started to decline.
John was preceded in death by his parents; son Derrick Andre French; siblings Linda Diane Cotten and James “Jimmy” Cotten.
He is survived by his children, Quori (Brandi) Cotten of Browns Summit, NC and Cedric Cotten of Siler City, NC; grandchildren Emery Cotten and Logan Cotten of Browns Summit, NC; siblings Deborah (Bill) Fennell of Austin, TX and Richard “Sammy” (Kathy) Cotten of Fayetteville, NC; sister-in-law Gwendolyn Cotten of Moncure, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
