Mr. John Arthur Berryman, age 76, of Sanford, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Obituary

John A. Berryman, entered into eternal rest on January 28, 2026, at his home.

John was the son of the late Roy and Ruth Berryman. He was born on November 27, 1949.  After graduating from W.B. Wicker High School, he joined the US Air Force on May 28, 1969, and was honorably discharged in 1973.  After his separation from the USAF, he returned to Sanford and worked as a Quality Control Technician at Allied Corporation. He was also employed by Pentair Ltd. in Sanford, and later retired from Caterpillar, also in Sanford. After retirement from Caterpillar, John decided he wanted to keep working and became an employee at First Baptist Church where he received deep admiration and recognition for the duties he performed at the church.

John or "JB", as many family members and close friends called him, was popular, admired, and everyone loved hanging out with him. But don’t let the accolades fool you. John was the one who “kept it moving”. One of John’s favorite moments was when he and his brother, Reggie, flew to California to see their oldest brother, Jim. The three of them often reminisced about that trip. John was also an avid Tar Heels fan.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Roger Berryman and James (aka Jim) Berryman, and his sister, Janice Garner. John leaves to cherish his memory: his sons, Jason Cross and Bradley Cross; grandson, Jayden Wilson; three brothers, Robert Berryman, Reginald (aka Reggie) Berryman (Barbara), and Brian Berryman; five sisters, Helen Palmer, Mary B. Farrow (Charlie), Barbara Wilson, Margaret Berryman and Carollyn (aka Lois) Berryman; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
