Mr. Joe Dale Farrington, age 64 of Chapel Hill, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at his residence.
The Obituary
Joe Dale Farrington, son of the late Libert and Katie Faye Farrington was born February 6,1960 in Chapel Hill, NC. Joe accepted Christ as a young man and attended St. John United Holy Church, Chapel Hill, NC. He concluded his earthly life on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
As a proud, lifelong resident of Chapel Hill, Joe attended Carrboro Elementary School, Grey Culbreth Jr High, and later graduated from Chapel Hill High School class of 1979. After high school, Joe worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) for several years before joining the Town of Chapel Hill Public Works Department. Joe served in several roles within public works, and concluded in his final position as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Joe retired in 2018 after over 38 years of faithful service. He loved his work and his coworkers. During his early years and over 40+ years of service to his community, Joe has developed lifelong relationships with hundreds of people throughout the State of North Carolina. But Chapel Hill was his place, where he loved and was well loved.
During his retirement, Joe took the time to deepen his commitment to serving his community and friendships by often hanging out with his friends and fellow retirees at the Country Junction Restaurant and local convenience stores; enjoying a meal, laughing and telling jokes. If you did not see him at the restaurant or a store, he was checking out the local thrift shops, fiddling around in his yard, gardening or working on a small carpentry project. Joe would not allow any of the aforementioned activities to come before his faithful commitment to providing weekly transportation to and from dialysis treatments, purchasing and picking up medication and groceries for his elderly neighbors and friends, or singing at a funeral to show his love for those who went before him. Joe had a tremendous love of classic automobiles and a recent affinity for TikTok. He had a warm and jovial spirit, never met a stranger and would laugh at his jokes even if you didn’t.
He married his sweetheart Debra Cooper at Zion Wall Free Baptist Church in Chadbourn, NC on May 2, 1987, and they settled in Chapel Hill NC where they raised two children, Shanesha and Kelli, both of Durham NC. Joe is survived by three sisters: Cynthia Stone (Harold Deceased), Beverly Roberson (Foy), and Joyce Edwards; one brother in love, Carl Harris (Louise). One aunt, Lenoris Baldwin. A mother-in-law, Ms. Elouise Mason, one sister in-law Annetta Godfrey (Larry); three brothers-in-law, Keith Cooper (Sue) of Fayetteville, NC, Sherman Cooper (Carol) of Mebane, NC, and Anthony Cooper (Sabrina) of Atlanta, Georgia. He has one goddaughter Jessica Williams, and four god grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, many cousins, many, many who called him friend.
