Jimmie Lawrence Obituary

Jimmie Wayne Lawrence, a descendent of the late John Archie and Stella Mae McIver Lawrence, was born November 30, 1951, in Harnett County, North Carolina. He matriculated through the Lee County (NC) School System attending W.B. Wicker School, Sanford NC. Upon integration, he was moved to Broadway High School, Broadway NC, where he graduated with the Class of 1970.

Jimmie united with the Cameron Grove African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Broadway NC, where he was baptized in the Methodist faith at an early age. He supported his church as a member of the Connectional Lay Council, the Usher Board, the Christian Education Department, and Class #12 Small Group Ministry.

In 1971, after high school, Jimmie moved to Baltimore, MD, and enlisted in the US Army Reserve. His training was conducted at Fort Sill, OK. He, then, moved to New York City, NY where he enrolled in Apex Technical School, New York City, NY. He received his certification in welding technology on December 27, 1983. In 1988, he returned to his hometown of Broadway, NC.

He used his certification in welding technology as he worked at Redman Homes Company, National Textiles, Inc., and Hanesbrands, Inc., all in Sanford NC. When Jimmie moved to Maryland in 1971, he met the former Darlene B. Perry. They were united in Holy Matrimony on July 15, 1977, in Baltimore. After his service to his country, Jimmie was honorably discharged from the US Army Reserve on June 26, 1985. He, then, spent the rest of his life doing odds and ends jobs at home, such as carpentry, gardening, and riding horses on the family homestead.

In the early evening of Friday, June 17, 2022, our beloved Jimmie embraced the peace of God and received his “crown of life and victory.” We are forever grateful to God for
blessing our lives with his presence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella Lawrence, and his siblings: Ruth Lawrence, Ricky Lawrence, Perry Lawrence, and James “Duke” Warren.

Jimmie is treasured in the hearts and souls of his “darling” Darlene Perry Lawrence; his children: Jimmie Lawrence, Jr. of Raleigh NC, and Aisha Hall of Broadway NC; his grandchildren: Tyherah Clark-Lawrence and Brittney Lawrence of Baltimore MD, Zaniya Lawrence and Tyresa Lipscomb of Broadway NC; his great-grandchildren: Tiana, Kamil, Elajah, Elijah, and Kori; his devoted sister: Stella Lawrence of Broadway NC; his brother: William Lawrence (Clarinda) of Baltimore MD; his cousin, who was more like a brother: Clifton McLean of Broadway NC; his in-laws: Claudette Chung (Prince), Karen Johnson, William Perry (Lori) and Darryl Perry of Baltimore MD and Denise Tucker of Phoenix, AZ; generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a plethora of friends.
