Jesse Chalmers Obituary

Mr. Jesse Lee Chalmers, age 92, of Cameron, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sanford, NC.

Obituary

Jesse Lee Chalmers, age 92, born and raised in the Johnsonville community of Harnett County, North Carolina, was born on October 2, 1933. He quietly departed this life on Saturday June 6, 2026, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Sanford, North Carolina. He was the fifth son of the late John and Alberta Atkins Chalmers.

In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, Novella Mckoy Chalmers for almost 64 years (since 1954); his six brothers, Sammie Lee Pearson, Charlie Chalmers, Johnnie Chalmers, R.T. Chalmers, Burnett Chalmers, and Winford Chalmers; and one sister, Clara Bell Blue.

Jesse attended Johnsonville School. He and Novella later made their home in Grand Rapids, Michigan for a number of years. While living in Grand Rapids, Jesse worked in retail sales. Upon his return to Cameron, North Carolina in the late 1970s, he was employed by Nissan until his retirement. After retirement Jesse started a lawn care business.

Jesse was a faithful and dedicated member of his ancestral church, Williams Chapel Presbyterian Church in Broadway, North Carolina. Jesse served in several capacities, including elder and treasurer, with a steadfast commitment until his health declined.

Jesse found joy in life’s simple blessings. He cherished time with his family, tending to his vegetable gardens with pride, tending to his farm animals, welcoming relatives and friends into his home, and delighted in sharing his love of grilling. His warmth, generosity and steady presence will be deeply missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory one son, David Chalmers (Tamecha) of Raeford, NC; two daughters, Susan Martin of Dunn, NC, and Kymberly Chalmers of Raleigh, NC; seventeen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters- in-law, three brothers- in-law a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many faithful friends.
