Obituary
James Jones, 93, of Sanford, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025. He was born on July 3, 1932, in Richland, Georgia, to the late Charlie and Maeola Jones.
James pursued his studies at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (A&T) before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He later made his home in Sanford, North Carolina, where he built a life marked by faith, family, and hard work.
He was an exceptionally skilled and gifted brick mason with a deep passion for his craft. Among his many projects, he was especially honored to have built the JL Morgan Family Life Center at First Calvary Baptist Church. His craftsmanship reflected his steady hands, attention to detail, and love for creating meaningful work that would last for generations.
James’ love for music carried throughout his life—from playing the trumpet at Lee County Training School in his youth to singing joyfully in the choir at First Calvary Baptist Church. He served faithfully as a devoted Deacon for many years, supporting the church he loved with humility and a sincere heart.
He found joy in many simple pleasures: watching his favorite sports, spending time outdoors, and especially fishing—most often and most joyfully with his son, Raynard.
James is remembered as a faithful Christian who loved and honored God. His cheerful spirit, warm smile, and humble nature made him well-loved by everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Edwards “Brother” Jones and Curtis Jones, as well as his parents, Charlie and Maeola Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Josephine Jones; four children, James Edwards Jones, Lee Tisha Jones, Raynard Jones, and Janice Williams; three grandchildren, Mauri Mckoy (Bruce), Thaddeus Patterson, and Ariana Alli; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Faye Jones; a devoted nephew, Geno Williams; and a loyal family friend, Jimmy Hudson.
James Jones lived a long, full, and meaningful life. His legacy of faith, family, and dedication will remain in the hearts of all who loved him.
