James Alford Jr.

James Alford, Jr., age 71 of 2801 Carver Drive, Sanford, NC passed on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at his residence.

James Alford Jr. “Sack” was born August 5, 1946 in McColl, SC to the late Martha Alford and James Alford Sr. He departed this life on June 3, 2018 at his home.

James joined Shady Grove FWB Church in 1982. He was a devoted father whom loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

“Sack” as he was affectionately called was a fan of football, baseball and race cars. He attended Adamsville High School. He was employed at Willamette/Boise Cascade for over 40 year.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Deberry Alford; his parents, Martha Gillis Alford and James Alford Sr.; his siblings, Shirley Ann Patterson and Tommy Alford; and his niece, Sherri Townsend-Harris.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Nell Jean Deberry, Dianna Alford and Pamela Alford all of Sanford, NC; his beloved grandchildren: Marquail, Angelo, Michael, Kesha, Ashley, Antonio and Nesha; ten great grandchildren, and three special great grandchildren: Latrail, Lashaun, and Latavious (Terry); siblings: Gloria Townsend (Luther) of High Point, NC; Donella McLeod of McColl, SC, Levonna McQueen of Laurinburg, NC and Leroy Alford of McColl, SC; in-laws, Hattie McNeill, Mary Ann Deberry, Rosa Lloyd, Fannie Reed, Lucy Merritt (Bobby), Edmond Deberry (Mae), and  Larry Ocheltree (Katherine); and his aunt, Maggie McCormick. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
