Jacqueline C. Addison, age 91 of 630 Lenox Ave, New York, NY passed on Sunday, January, 19, 2020 at her residence.
Jacqueline C. Addison was born on February 19, 1928, in Moore County, North Carolina to the late Carrie B. McKeithen McNeill and Henry Powell, granddaughter of Ollie Mattews Sanford and Will Matthews.
She departed this life on Sunday, January 19, 2020, in New York City. She died peacefully in her sleep.
Jacqueline joined Red Hill Baptist Church, Cameron, North Carolina, at an early age and continued her education at Shaw University. She relocated to New York to further her education. She became affiliated with the Abyssinian Baptist Church at 17 years of age and was a faithful member until her health declined. She joined the Sanctuary Choir and was eager to sing the praises of the Lord. Further, she joined the Pastor’s Aide Club and worked diligently until the clubs were discontinued. She refused to take a cab to church and continued walking until recently. She loved Abyssinian Baptist Church and would sing the songs daily.
She was employed at Columbia University until retirement in 1990. She served as an Executive Assistant to the Director.
She enjoyed traveling extensively including France, Paris, and Italy. Further, she enjoyed movies, plays and social gatherings with friends and relatives.
She leaves to mourn her passing: one sister, Elsie J. McKeithen McLeod; one brother, Walter Robert Henderson; one nephew, Dr. Nelson McLeod, II (preceded in death) wife, Michelle; grandniece, Naomi Alexis McLeod, and and two godchildren, Denise Hamilton and Steven Covington, wife Gloria; cousins, William Matthews, Andy Matthews, (Regina), Frederick Matthews, and Vera Frye. She also leaves a myriad of friends and relatives.
