Obituary
We are here to celebrate the life of Mr. Jacob W. Bland, a man whose journey was marked by love, dedication, and quiet strength.
Jacob W. Bland was born on October 15, 1932, in Pittsboro, North Carolina, as the youngest child of Sophia Taylor and Jacob Bland. From humble beginnings, he built a life rooted in education, family, and meaningful experiences.
Jacob received his early education at Horton High School and later pursued higher learning at Shaw University. He remained proud of his alma mater and faithfully attended annual homecomings, cherishing the connections and memories formed there.
While teaching in Tennessee, Jacob met the love of his life, Mary V. Sanders, who preceded him in death. Their union was one of deep affection and partnership, and together they raised two children: Donna Michele and Jacob Darryl.
Jacob later moved to New York, where he dedicated many years of service working at the Spafford Juvenile Facility until his retirement. He was known for his commitment and steady presence.
A man who embraced life fully, Jacob had a love for travel and found his greatest joy in spending time with family. His life was a testament to hard work, love, and adventure.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Donna Michele Joseph (Ruddy) and Jacob Darryl Bland (Lorna); his grandson, David Von Joseph; his great-grandsons, Jusyia Vale and David Von Joseph Jr.; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary V. Bland, and his grandson, Darryl Lamar Bland.
Jacob W. Bland will be remembered for his enduring love for family, his dedication to education, and the legacy of strength and kindness he leaves behind.
