Ida Mae Caviness, age 104 of 605 Magnolia Street, Sanford, NC passed on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at her residence.
Ida Mae Tuck Caviness was born on March 12, 1914 to the late Alton and Nellie Tuck. She quietly and peacefully transitioned to life eternal on March 17, 2018 at the age of 104.
Ida was one of the longest and eldest members of Poplar Springs AME Church. She was dedicated and devoted to her church.
Ida was married to the late Sandy McLean and to their union three children was born.
Ida was a loving mother after the death of her husband. She relocated with her sons to Tarrytown, NY to be closer to her daughter and her family. She was employed as a nursing aide for over 20 years at Westchester County Ruth Taylor nursing home in Valhalla, NY.
Ida remarried the late Vernon Caviness in New York and when she retired they both relocated back to Sanford, NC to enjoy their retirement. During her last days at home all of the ladies who cared for her became dear loving acquaintances.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Sandy McLean; her children: Ogie Lee McLean Coram, Chester McLean and Charles McLain; her parents, Alton and Nellie Tuck.
Ida’s memories will be cherished by her devoted granddaughter, Lisa Coram-Johnson of White Plains, NY. Her loving grandsons, Wayne Coram of Silver Spring, MD and Gary McLain of Lake Worth, FL. Her legacy will be lived through her great-grandchildren, King Ajene and Davon Johnson, Cameron and Collyn Coram and Jada McLain. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
