Howard Sloan Battle, Sr.
October 27, 1954 ~ January 19, 2024 (age 69) 69 Years Old
Mr. Howard Sloan Battle Sr. was born October 27, 1954 in Sanford, North Carolina to Howard Battle and Ruby Snipes Battle. He departed this life on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the SECU Jim and Betsy Hospice Center in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
Sloan loved and established a relationship with the Lord at a young age. He became a member of Poplar Springs AME Church where he was baptized. He confirmed and recommitted his life to the Lord during the latter days of his life.
He was educated in the Lee County School System and graduated from Greenwood School in 1973. His most cherished job was being a truck driver. His CB handle was and as many knew him as “Bone”. Sloan was employed with the family-owned Battle Trucking Co. for many years.
He enjoyed cooking and eating two of his favorite foods, fried chicken and fried fish. He also loved popcorn, fatback, and pork rinds. He loved spending time with family, listening to music, dancing, watching westerns, and hanging out with his best friend, Larry McIver “Gritty”. He spent a lot of time riding in trucks with his sons and giving them advice and expertise about repairing and maintaining their trucks.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Emma and Will Snipes, paternal grandparents, John Battle and Lottie Battle and Clifton Battle.
Sloan leaves to cherish his memories: his parents Howard Battle and Ruby Snipes Battle; brother Clarence Battle (Brenda), life-long partner, Mary Worthy; four daughters Toshiba Battle, Courtney Battle, Taikesha Battle, and Mari-ana Battle and eights sons Dedric Baldwin, LeDarren Worthy, Sloan Battle Jr., Dequan Battle, Marquis Battle, Tyson Battle, Joshua Battle, Tre Battle; his grandkids, Amari, Ahking, Jaydian, Aria, Elijah, Gabriel, Karson, Jaylen and Khaza. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
