Mr. Herbert Howard Fordham, Jr., age 69, of Sanford, NC, transitioned to eternal rest on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Signature Healthcare in Chapel Hill, NC.

The Obituary

Herbert Howard Fordham was born September 13, 1954.  On September 3, 2024, God sent His angels to carry him home. 

Herbert was a proud member of the US Army.  Serving several tours with the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg NC. Other tours included Hawaii, Korea, Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Promotions came quickly for “Herb” as a Communications’ Specialist (31V).  He often used the term 7 in 11, meaning he made Sergeant First Class in eleven years. His career ended as First Sergeant of the 159th Aviation Unit. After his military career Herbert was the proud owner and operator of Fordham Express under Dart.  His hobbies included Formula One Racing, watching CNN, Duke basketball, and being a New York Yankees fan. “Herb” also enjoyed a great game of spades. Don’t come into the Fordham household expecting to win. 

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Bertha Fordham, Sr.; daughter, Ishea Wilson; sister, Ann Allen; brothers, William Fordham, Walter Hopskins, Earl Hopkins, and Warren Fordham and granddaughter, Kameron Fordham.

He leaves to cherish his memories wife Vivian of 40 years, daughters, LaKesha Fordham (McLeansville, GA) and Gabrielle Richmond (Cameron, NC); son, Herbert Deon Addison (Shanice) of Killen, TX); sister, Rhodie Thornhill (Ricky) Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Tayah, Misah, Jakiya, Inari, Cenceer, De’Jahore, De’Mani, and De’Vian; three brothers-in-law, Shelton Richmond, Eric Richmond (Vickie), and Allen Beck (Lisa); his best friend and mentor, Herbert Wilson of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
