Henry Rufus Gillyort, Sr.

Mr. Henry Rufus Gillyort, age 80 of Raeford, North Carolina transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, November 10, 2023. 

Henry Rufus Gillyort was born January 22, 1943, in Lee County, NC to the late Fred and Catherine Gillyort. He received his education in Harnett County Schools. 

Henry loved his family and was a hard worker.  He worked as a cook, cab driver, and bus driver for years until he became ill. He loved fishing, cooking, puzzle books, and traveling, and had a passion for working on cars.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine McDougald Gillyort; father, Fred Henry Gillyort; grandson, Rasheed Gillard; siblings, Martha Gillard, Elva McDaniel, Lillian Clay, and Effie Lyles; special aunts, Mamie McLean and Pauline McDougald; special uncles, James Taft McLean and Paul McDougald, and a stepdaughter, Pat Ann McLean.

He leaves to cherish his memories wife, Mayble; children, Cathy (Daryle) Hooper of Raeford, NC, Henry Gillard, Jr. of Raeford, NC, Alecia Gillyort of Hyattsville, MD; grandchildren, Timothy McLean of Sanford, NC, Quinton McLean of Sanford, NC, Antonio Gillard, Jonathon Gillyort, Tamekia Petty, Asia Minter of Sanford, NC, Keona Williams of Sanford, NC, Jamell Martin of Sanford, NC and Destiny Murchison; 24 great-grandchildren; special friends, Tom and Wade Stackhouse, and Chris Horton; and a host of nieces, and nephews that were all special to Henry, and other relatives and friends.
