Haywood Snipes Obituary

Haywood Earl Snipes, age 86 of Cameron, NC, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 3, 2026, at First Health Hospice.

Haywood Earl Snipes affectionately known as “Cowboy” was born on March 16, 1940, in Sanford, North Carolina, to the late Willie Herbert and Nancy Emma Snipes. He peacefully departed this life on July 3, 2026 at the age of 86, surrounded by the love of his family

Haywood accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Poplar Springs AME Church, where he served and remained a devoted servant of God until his health declined.

He was a hardworking man who believed in honesty, respect, and taking care of his family. Known for his quiet strength, kind heart, and sense of humor, Cowboy never met a stranger. He loved the outdoors, country music, old westerns, and most of all, watching his New York Mets. Rain or shine, you could count on him to be in front of the TV cheering on his team. He drove Long distance trucks for many years going State to State.

Haywood was preceded in death by his parents, the late Willie and Emma Snipes, a son, Haywood “Bernard Snipes, and ten siblings, Marie Chesney, Sarah Chesney, Farris Snipes, Glen Snipes, Lofton Snipes, Linberg Snipes, George Snipes, Jimmie Snipes, Rebecca Worthy and Mary ”Fat” Chesney.

Haywood leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Barbara Snipes, two children, Stephanie McIver and Steve Snipes (Chavela). His grandchildren Brandy, Marcus, Steve, Keitric, Cori, Aston, Willis, Anquwon, Breanna, Rashaad, Dante, Za’Qualia, Naeem, Naajii, Aa’Seef, and Alahvion; thirty-one great grandkids and three great-great grandkids, one sister, Ruby Jean Battle (Howard); two special grandsons, Tyrann Snipes and Elijio Hooker; his in-laws Willie Mae Harrington of Troy NY, Anita Snipes and Pamela Richmond of Sanford NC. A special friend Clarence Harrell. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear friends.

He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith and strength will live on in all who knew and loved him.
