George Nathaniel Smith

George Nathaniel Smith, age 85 of 387 Oak Branch Rd,. Sanford, NC passed on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at his residence.

George Nathaniel Smith transitioned into his New Heavenly Home on February 4, 2020. He was born September 27, 1934 to the late Ravin and Artie Lee Crump Smith in the township of Cape Fear, NC. He was a beloved father; grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He attended Haywood School in Moncure, NC and then attended Horton High School, Pittsboro, NC.

George moved to the Washington DC in the late 50's where he married the late Ethel “Darlene” Brooks and started his family. He worked and retired from the Library of Congress in Washington DC. After retirement he returned to North Carolina to be with his family.

He was a Die Heart Washington Redskin and Washington National Fan.

George is preceded in death by; mother and father, Artie and Ravin Smith; brothers, William, Ravin, Donald, and Robert, and sister, Linda Smith.

George leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Katrina Smith, of Texas;  two sons: Donald “Tony" Smith (Katrina K.) of Florida, and Kevin Smith (Katrina C.) of Maryland; son-in-law, Ralph Martin Jr. of Virginia; three sisters: Lola Partridge, Pittsboro, NC; Carrie Lee Hackney, Moncure, NC; and Helen "Joann" (Hubert) Matthews, Moncure, NC; eight grandchildren: Erica, Jason, Demetrius, Jamien, Jermain, Kevin, Kyree and Donald Omari; four great grandchildren: Amani, Brianna, Dylan, and Zion; sisters-in-law: Sylvia Green, Maryland, Louise Smith, Pittsboro, NC; Dazelle Smith, Fuquay,  NC, and Emma Smith, Pittsboro, NC; two aunts, Nora Smith, Moncure, NC, and Robena McCrimmon,  Moncure, NC; special cousin, Charles "Pete" Dowd, Hickory, NC; special friends,  Willie “Tinebo" Crump, New Hill, NC, Carrol Shaw, Landover, MD, Leah Middleton, Rose Hill, NC, and Annie B. Toomer, Moncure,  NC , also The Shaw Family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
