The Obituary
Frederick Berryman, passionately known as Freddy, was born on November 11, 1959, to the late Fred H. Ross of Columbia SC and Colleen B. Simms of Sanford, NC.
Freddy had a calling upon his life at a very early age. He was a monumental minister of music for over 50 years. In the late 1970’s he was the drum major for The Sanford Community Marching Band and the lead guitarist for the Southern Trumpaletts gospel choir, both lead by his mother. Even then he had an affectionate love of music. Among some of his talents were playing the drums, the guitar, and singing. Freddy’s passion was making those keys talk on a keyboard. All of his talents were self-taught.
Freddy was raised attending Mt. Sinai Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Laudermilk.
He attended W. B. Wicker and graduated from Central High School.
Freddy traveled to numerous churches, ministering music for those who asked. Whether it was a musical program, Sunday service or a loved one’s home going, you could always count on Freddy. His musical talents put a stamp on our community. Some use to call him the greatest keyboardist of all times. He will be deeply missed.
Freddy was preceded in death by his father, Fred H. Ross; mother, Colleen B. Simms; grandmother, Mary W. Berryman; grandfather, Cleveland Mc Lucas; and his very special aunt, Rosa Berryman.
Freddy leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Camila Clay Berryman; daughters, Fredericka B. Sanders (Tavienne), and Shkira Berryman; sons, Frederick D. Berryman and Charles C. Clay; five grandchildren, McKenzie, Remy, Elias, LaLani, and Nasir; brother, Glennelle Simms of Sanford NC; uncles, Donnie Berryman and James Berryman; one great uncle, Cornelius Berryman; mother in-law, Callie Amerson; and a host of cousins, friends, and family.
