Obituary

Reverend Frances Matthews McCormick, age 74 of Providence, Rhode Island, formerly of Goldston, North Carolina, transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

She was born in Goldston, NC to the late William and Laura Matthews on April 6, 1949.

Rev. Frances was employed by the Rhode Island Medical Center as a CNA before retiring in 2015 to care for her precious sister, Dora.

Rev. Frances was a faithful member of the Beacon Avenue Church of God for 54 years, where she gave her heart to the Lord. Rev. Frances was a student of the Word, completing all phases of the Southern New England Church of God Ministerial Training: Mobilize (Lay Leadership), CAMS, MIP, and became an ordained minister in the Church of God in May 2022. She wrote about herself on Facebook: " I love the Lord with all of my heart. He is first in my life".  In addition to her studies, Rev. Frances was very active in the church and served on the Finance Committe, Praise and Worship team, Church Choir, Evangelism team, and the Senior Ministry in addition to being a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Over the years, Rev. Frances became a fantastic cook, taking great delight in cooking for her family, friends, and loved ones. A caring heart, Rev. Frances always surprised people with special gifts. I f you knew Rev. Frances at all, then you knew she loved to laugh and loved to shop. A woman of elegance, style, and grace. she loved her many pairs of high-heeled shoes and fabulous purses.

She was preceded in death by eight siblings, Derry, Elnora, Rev. Ray, Robert, William Jr.

Rev. McCormick leaves to mourn her brothers who were so very precious to her, Frank (Alice) Matthews and Bishop Thomas Matthews both of Sanford, NC; Deacon Hubert (Joann) Matthews of Moncure, NC, Deacon Wendell (Joyce) Matthews of Goldston, NC; sister-in-law, Lerlean; and a host of loving nieces, nephew, cousins, family, and friends.

Like her sister, Dora, Rev. Frances was not a biological mother, but she was a spiritual mother to many, who referred to her as Aunt Frances.

Rev. Frances had an especially close relationship with her niece, Lisa Matthews Lassiter.
