Faye Renee Johnson

Faye Renee Johnson was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. She was the fourth of five children to William W. Johnson and Elsie Mae (Brown) Johnson. She had two older brothers, Monty Johnson and Willie Johnson, one older sister, Sue (Johnson) McBride, and one younger sister, Sandra Lynn (Johnson) Phillips. Faye had one child, Kenneth Jevon Johnson (“Von”) and one grandchild, Aiden Kai Johnson (“Kai”), the apple of her eye. 

Faye was born once into her earthly family but born again into her spiritual one. It was at that point she began to find her purpose in life. Faye’s magnanimous spirit led her into the nursing profession where she spent her life healing others.

Faye was one of the first nurses who worked at Carol Woods. She also worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield and throughout the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill healthcare system. She had an infectious smile and a sharp sense of humor which endured her to staff and patients alike. 

For more than thirty years Faye was a faithful member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where she was very active in bible study and was on the church’s Capital Campaign Committee. She also worked with the feeding component of the church’s collaboration with Habitat for Humanity. Faye cherished her friendships from the church and the spiritual guidance she sought and received from stalwarts in the faith.

Years before Faye’s death she wrote that if her health was at the point of no return, “Jesus will come get me.” And on March 27, 2025, Jesus did just that. Faye is survived by her younger sister, Sandra Lynn Phillips, her son, Kenneth Jevon Johnson (“Von”), her grandchild, Aiden Kai Johnson (“Kai”), and Kai’s mother, Maggie Leah Hart. A host of other friends and loved ones are left to cherish Faye’s memory.
