Fannie Harris Obituary

Mother Fannie Cornelia (Matthews) Harris, age 92, of Sanford, NC, entered eternal rest on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Wake Med Hospital in Cary, NC.

The Obituary

Mother Fannie “Cornelia” Matthews Harris, daughter of the late Boyd Matthews and Myrtise Cheek, was born on June 27, 1932 in Randolph County, North Carolina.  She transitioned to her eternal rest on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at WakeMed Hospital in Cary, North Carolina.

Mother Cornelia Harris was highly respected as the pillar of her family.  She was a strong source of guidance, protection, and stability.  She was a devoted mother and loved her family dearly.  She was affectionately known as “Nā Nā” to her grandchildren.  She had an endearing way of making others feel loved and special with her affectionate smile, words of encouragement, and loving hugs.  Her hugs were the best.  Her generous and caring nature made her lovable and unforgettable to all who met her.

She was a faithful member of St. Mark United Church of God for over twenty-five years under the leadership of Elder Malcolm and Evangelist Emma Curry.  She served faithfully as Treasurer of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry.  She was strong in her faith and not ashamed to witness to others about her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  If you ever asked her how she was doing, she would boldly reply: “I am blessed and highly favored in the Lord”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd Matthews and Myrtise Cheek; her son, Vernell Bernard Harris; her grandson, Bernard “Fuzzy” Harris; her great-grandson, Malaki Harris; her sisters, Carol Campbell, Teresa Headen, and Jessie Cassidy; and her brother, Verlenon Matthews.

She leaves to cherish her memories:  her daughters, Mavis McLeod and Myrtise Harris of Sanford, North Carolina; her son, Ringo Morrison of Sanford, North Carolina; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Rosa Blackwell of Asheboro, North Carolina; her brothers, Gary Matthews of Liberty, North Carolina and Terry Matthews of Asheboro, North Carolina; her special godson, Michael McIver of Sanford, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

"Family and friends will be received from 1 pm to 7 pm daily at 1370 Brookhollow Drive, Sanford, NC, 27330".
