The Obituary
Christopher Gregory Washington was born on September 24, 1961, in Lee County, North Carolina, to Betty Johnson-Brewington and John Blue. He was lovingly raised by his mother and stepfather, Willie Brewington, both of whom played significant roles in shaping the man he would become.
The love and guidance he received at home helped shape his determination to succeed. Carrying those values with him, he graduated from Western Harnett High School in Lillington, North Carolina, and later moved to New Jersey in 1988 to begin a new chapter in his life.
Those who knew Christopher would agree that his strength, generosity, and hands-on spirit were deeply rooted from an early age. His character spoke volumes, he was dependable, thoughtful, and always ready to lend a helping hand.
For many years, Christopher worked in Hospitality service and building operations at Hackensack Meridian Health JFK Hospital. He took great pride in his work, becoming known as a reliable problem-solver and the go-to person when something needed to be done right.
With a natural talent for fixing, building, and teaching, Christopher was always willing to share what he knew with others.
Faith was at the core of who he was. Christopher was a God-fearing man who stood firmly in the word and lived out his beliefs through service, loyalty, and love. He was a protector, not only to his immediate family but also to siblings, relatives, and friends alike. Whether offering guidance, showing up during hard times, or simply being present, Christopher made people feel safe and supported.
He shared a life of love and parenthood with Leslie Washington, and together they raised their children: Nikiyah, Krystina, Krystian, and Joshua. One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandfather. Nothing brought him more peace than being surrounded by the laughter and love of his family.
Christopher was preceded in death by his father John Blue, stepfather Willie Brewington, and his sister Hazel Dearman.
Christopher will be lovingly remembered by his beloved mother Betty Johnson-Brewington, his stepmother Geraldine Blue, his daughters Nikiyah Elder of East Orange, NJ,and Krystina Washington (Anthony) of Bethlehem, PA, his sons Krystian Washington (Miracle) of Newark, NJ and Joshua Washington of Albany, GA. He leaves behind a lasting legacy through his grandchildren Aniyah Saleem (Ryan), Karsen Curry, Santanna Washington, Ayden Curry, Alessia Washington, Joannalise Karter Wroten and Josiah Clarke, and great-granddaughter Rhea Haupt. He is also survived by his sisters Edna Carter (Linwood), Priscilla Kimpson (Michael), Minister Donna MCGhie (Clarence), Pastor Angela Thompson (Gerald), Robin Percell (Frank), Daphine Bullock, Evangelist Annette McKoy(Milton), Allene Hodges, Elder Melissa Blue and Nicole Blue; his brothers Michael Washington, James Washington, Charles Washington (Jeneane), Bishop Warren Anderson (Shelia), and Patrick Blue; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.
