Ernestine (Brewer) Mangum

Mrs. Ernestine Brewer Mangum age 84 of Rutherford, New Jersey transitioned into eternal rest at her residence in Rutherford, New Jersey.

Ernestine Brewer Mangum, daughter of the late Robert and Patsy Brewer was born in Pittsboro, NC on August 7, 1935. She was married to the late Billy Mangum.  She went to her eternal rest on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at her home in Rutherford, New Jersey. Ernestine was the last of
the eleven Brewer siblings. 

She joined Mitchell Chapel Church in her early age. She graduated from Horton High School, Pittsboro, NC. She continued her education at North Carolina Central University Durham, NC, where she received a degree in Education. She taught elementary school in the Rutherford School System for over 35 years.  She was known to be a kind and intelligent woman. During her teaching career, she inspired many and left lasting positive impressions on those she taught.

While in New Jersey, she was a faithful and active member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Rutherford, NJ. When she was unable to regularly attend church due to her health, she continued to work by leading the church Phone Outreach Ministry. She would inform members of church news.  Although our beloved “Aunt Ernie” lived miles away, she was never forgotten. She always stayed in constant communication with her family and loved ones in Chatham County and surrounding areas.

Her memory will be cherished by her nephew, Paul Goines - who served as her dedicated caretaker once her health began to fail,
a host of nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends.
