Obituary
Elizabeth Anginette Alston, affectionately known as Liz, was born on August 19, 1944, at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, to the late Russell Lee and Viola Jacob Lee. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 8, 2025, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, surrounded by love.
Raised in a close-knit family, Liz grew up with a spirit that was both tender and strong. She graduated from Horton High School 1962, where she shined on the basketball court and nurtured her lifelong love of dance, a joy that followed her throughout her life.
Liz devoted more than 35+ years of dedicated service to Allied Chemicals as a lab technician in Moncure, NC, where she earned multiple awards recognizing her outstanding work. Her commitment, reliability, and exceptional work ethic made her a respected colleague and a cherished presence in the workplace.
Her love for community was unmistakable. She was an active member of the “Athletes Who Made a Difference” organization at Horton High School and proudly a member of the Horton High Alumni Association. In her role as the 1st Vice President of the Chatham County Agricultural & Industrial Association, Liz led with pride, fairness, and an unwavering sense of integrity. She was a truth-teller in every season of life offering honesty wrapped in wisdom, even when the truth was difficult to receive. Her strength of character left a lasting imprint on everyone blessed to know her.
In 1994, Liz became a faithful member of New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsboro, NC, under the leadership of Reverend Kerry Hawkins. Her faith anchored her life. She showed up for others with quiet strength, a nurturing heart, and a deep commitment to service.
Liz’s greatest joy was her family. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Kenneth Alston; her loving daughter, Stephanie Forbes; and her grandchildren, Caleb J. Forbes IV (wife, Jania) and Joshua A. Forbes, who brought tremendous joy and pride into her life.
She is also survived by her beloved sister, Francine Lee Revels and sister-in-law Delynda Lee, Felicia Lee, Mary Moffitt; and beloved nieces and nephews including Chenille Jones (husband, Joel), Thomas Lee, Chase Lee, Casandra Lee (husband Patrick), Bendetta Cheek, Frita Fairley Pineda, and LaVonda Cheek, along with a host of additional nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who adored her deeply.
Two cherished lifelong friends, Mary Green and Shirley Hart, stood with her through every season of her life.
Liz was preceded in death by her father, mother and brothers Russel Lee, Viola Jacobs Lee David Lee, Wallace Lee, Dan Lee, and Curtis Lee, each of whom she lovingly carried in her heart.
Liz lived a life marked by service, truth, and unwavering compassion. She was funny in a way that brightened rooms, strong in a way that steadied others, and nurturing in a way that made people feel seen and cared for. If you needed help, she came. If you needed honesty, she spoke it. If you needed love, she poured it out freely.
Her legacy is one of faith, family, integrity, and community, a life well-lived, generously given, and deeply loved. Her light will live on in every heart she touched.
