Ms. Dorothy Mae (Spears) Headen, age 70, of Sanford, NC entered eternal rest on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at her residence.

The Obituary

Dorothy Mae Spears Headen, born on February 28, 1955, to the late Sim Spears and Jennie Mae Douglas Spears. She passed away peacefully at her home on April 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born in Bennettsville, SC, and later moved to Sanford, NC, where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Sanford Central High School and worked as a seamstress for many years before furthering her education at Central Carolina Community College, earning a degree in Business Administration. She then worked at BB&T before retiring.

Dorothy was united in marriage to the late Willie Barmon Headen for thirty-two wonderful years. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, known for her infectious smile that would light up any room. She cherished her family, enjoyed trips to the beach, and treasured the time spent with her grandchildren. She ENJOYED life to the fullest! She was a true fighter and never complained along her journey. Dorothy often stated, “I have lived a good life”.

Dorothy was a dedicated member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities. She was always willing to help others, and she had a heart of gold. Dorothy loved the Lord; she found great peace and comfort in her relationship with God, and she lived a life that reflected her faith.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Barmon Headen; her parents, Sim and Jennie Mae Spears; two brothers, Victor and James Spears; and one sister, Tommie Jennings Porter.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories; her children, Sherri Spears- Jones (Landy), Darick L. Headen (Tonya), Chrisi H. Staples (James) and Tawanna D. Harrell (Joe); brothers, Frazier Spears, Sim Spears (Renee) and Charlie Spears (Flonnie); eighteen grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
