Doris Bynum Obituary

Mrs. Doris Jean (Green) Bynum, age 82, of Carrboro, NC entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 13, 2024, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.

The Obituary 

Mrs. Doris Jean Bynum, daughter to the late Harvey and Ossie Green was born June 28th, 1941, in Chatham County, North Carolina. Doris transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, May 13th, 2024.

Doris graduated from Horton High School, then soon after obtained her Associates Degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She followed by obtaining her Bachelors of Science in Biology from NCCU. Doris finished her career as a social worker after she obtained her Masters Degree in Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill. Doris was most proud of being an ordained Minister under the leadership of Dr. J.R. Manley of First Baptist Church in Chapel Hill. She later received a Masters Degree in Religious Education from the school of Pastoral and Evangelistic Ministries of the Deliverance Tabernacle Fellowship of Churches. She was the director of the youth missionary team at First Baptist under Dr. Manley and also sang in the choir. Previous to her membership at First Baptist, she was a member of Mitchell’s Chapel A.M.E Zion Church where she was a part of the choir, Sunday school, and served on the usher board. Doris was a very active member of her community, where she did all in her power to make a difference for the lives of her children and others surrounded by her. Doris was the chairman of the Chatham Alliance Against Political Repression, the chairman of the Precinct of University Lake, a member of the Women of Distinction, and chairman of the Orange County Women Democrats. This was only a few of the organizations she was affiliated with to impact those closest to her. She ran for Alderman of Carrboro, she was a journalist for the Chapel Hill News, and even a radio host on WAFR in Durham, NC. In her spare time, Doris loved to spend time with her family, as well as, travel the world and make memories with her beloved husband, DeLeon Bynum. Doris and DeLeon were members of a travel club where the adventured all over the US, but also visited places such as Egypt, Nova Scotia, Mexico, Africa, and Italy.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Ossie Green; Deceased siblings include; Ralph, Chandler, Rayford, Harvey Jr., Samuel, and Robert Green, Beulah Jones, Flossie Davis, Emma Irene Taylor, Margaret Clark, Faye Toller, and Edna Faucette.

Doris leaves her love and memories to be cherished by her husband DeLeon Bynum. Doris had one son, Jeffrey Foushee (Ebony) who blessed her with three grandchildren; Iesha Johnson, Tamia Golden, and Isaac Foushee, as well as four great grandchildren; Gregory, Hailey, Zyion, and Justice. Doris had one daughter, Andrea Foushee, who blessed her with one grandson Joshwon Foushee (Marché). Doris leaves her memories and love to two surviving sisters: Francine McNeil (Felix) and Stella Chesney (Jerry), as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
