Donnie Lee Roberson

Mr. Donnie Lee Roberson, age 80, of Sanford, NC entered eternal rest on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at his residence. 

The Obituary

Donnie Lee Roberson was born October 29, 1944, in Lee County and transitioned into eternal rest, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.  He was the son of the late Lewis and Gladys Roberson. 

Donnie was married to his wife, Wilhelmina for 21 years.   

In 1957, Donnie, his brother, John, and a few friends formed the Rock & His Combo band.  Donnie was a guitarist in this band.  They performed rock ‘n’ roll and R&B debuting at a Lee County elementary school talent show.  They quickly gained popularity and performed throughout Sanford. 

Donnie graduated from W.B. Wicker High School in 1962.  After graduating from high school, Donnie joined the Army.   

After leaving the military, Donnie lived in Brooklyn, New York and worked in the garment district for a while.  Donnie enjoyed watching TV (old tv shows) along with football, basketball, and boxing.  He also enjoyed listening to old R&B music and playing the guitar.  He enjoyed Southern-style cooking (which he was good at). 

Donnie leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Wilhelmina; two sons, Ryan Roberson (Adriann) and Brandon Caldwell, Sr; two daughters, Tiffany Barrett (Timothy) and Kimberly Crump; two stepchildren, Maurice and Shemika Brown; twenty grandchildren; two great grandchildren; siblings, Tinie Myles (James), Otis Spruiell (Cynthia), Helena Palmer (Raynard), and Joann Currie; one sister-in-law, Sharon Covington; two brothers-in-law, Bobby Brown (Annie) and Ricky Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
