The Obituary
Donald Kent Wimbley, 61 of Sanford, NC passed on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford, NC.
He was born August 3, 1962, to the late Willie and Rosa McMillian Wimbley. Kent as he was affectionally called was their seventh child and came into the world with his twin sister Donna Kim.
Kent graduated from Lee Senior High School and later joined the US Navy. After serving his country, he showed a strong desire to be an electrician. Even in his later years he would ask for electrical books to keep up with the latest codes.
There was always a love for growing flowers and vegetables that he enjoyed talking about to whomever would listen. He gained this knowledge as a young boy from his dad and working for a plant nursery. These values were deeply instilled in him and he held them dear to his heart.
He had several other passions including playing the drums, listening to music, reading and writing bible scriptures. The one passion Kent held most dear was that of being called “Pops” by his son, Keith. Kent was proud of the man Keith had become and would always sign all written correspondence with his and Keith’s full names as if they were in business together.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Rosa Wimbley; baby sister, Pamela Jane Spruill; and brother-in-law, Willie Spruill.
He is survived by his son, Keith Wimbley (Scotti); twin grandchildren, Hope and Julian Wimbley; siblings, Willie Frederick Wimbley (Janis), Cora Diann Owens (Jackie), Sandra Kay Patterson (Donald), Karen Jean Ray, Griggs Chandler Wimbley (Audrey) and his twin sister Pastor Donna Kim Hooker (Pastor Nathane); four aunts, Remonia Spinks, Pastor Pearline McMillian, Rev. Alice McMillian and Dorothy Pettiford; along with a large extended family composed of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
