Mr. Derrick Lamont Williams Sr., age 45, of Sanford NC, transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, May 24, 2021, at his residence.
Derrick Lamont Williams Sr. was born on October 7, 1975, in Sanford North Carolina to Myra Brown and Vincent McLeod. Derrick graduated from Lee County Senior High School in 1993. He worked various jobs that led him to his current job at Mountaire, which had a major impact on his life. He loved that job. He started out as a crew member and worked his way up to become a Receiving Supervisor. He cared deeply about his title and made sure his workers were good on and off the clock.
Derrick was all about his family and friends. He would always be there when needed. He had a smile that could brighten your day. Derrick loved to dance and have a good time. His personality was one of a kind. No matter where he went, people knew him by different aliases such as "Scuz", "Wax", "Speedy", but at the end of the day he was still "George". He never changed who he was as a person. He always stayed true to himself. God needed someone who was vibrant, laughable, loveable, dedicated, and strong-willed. He chose Derrick and now his mission has been completed.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Derrick Dion Williams Jr. and De'Erick DeShaun Williams; daughter, Precious Angel Williams; his grandparents, Ben and Ella Louis McLeod, and Earlene Gill, and Johnny Williams;
Derrick was a loving husband and father. His legacy will continue through his wife, Cheriss Upchurch Williams; sons, Dominique Williams, Shaddius Upchurch, Saveon Taylor, and De'Lontae Williams all of Sanford, NC; daughters, Patrina Miles of Missouri, Kaniya Alston, Chy'Trice Upchurch, and Karma Williams all of Sanford, NC; siblings; Mirranda Stanley-Jones (Garry), Tony Williams, Omar Williams, Felicia Simmons (Johnathon), and Malcolm Williams; grandchildren, Zayden Williams, Zanaria Harris, Alana Richardson, Aubrey Williams, Aiden Williams, Ivy Williams, Brayden and Bryson Williams, Shaddius Upchurch Jr., and Josiah Miles; mother in law, Carolyn Upchurch; brother in law, Christopher Upchurch (Takia); and sister in law, Sondra Durham; Derrick had a host of aunts and uncles. Desi Gill was one of the uncles who played a special role in his life.
