Demuntay DeQuan Thomas

Mr. Demuntay DeQuan Thomas, age 23 of Moncure, NC entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 5, 2023, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.

 DeMuntay DeQuan Thomas, affectionally known as “Monte” to his family, and friends was born on August 1, 1999, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, NC. He gained his wings with his loving family at his side on May 5, 2023, at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, NC.

Monte joined Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Moncure NC at an early age, and he was christened/baptized by Pastor George Headen. He was a member of the Youthlettes and the Mt. Olive Male Chorus. He also played the drums and assisted with the Sound Ministry.

Monte was educated through Chatham County Schools. He attended Pittsboro Primary, Pittsboro, NC, and Horton Middle School, Pittsboro, NC. He received his High School Diploma from Northwood High School, Pittsboro, NC in 2017. He was a member of Brother 2 Brother, a national student organization designed to improve the educational experience, to embrace leadership by being positive examples for each other through a strong commitment to academic achievement, brotherhood, and community service, promoting successful retention and college completion among African American, and Hispanic/Latino males.

As a youngster, Monte had a passion for sports. He was known to be the smallest player on the team, but had a heart of a Lion, and was ready to conquer the game. Monte played with several little league basketball teams growing up such as Team One on One coached by his grandfather, Steven Thomas, Chatham County REC coached by Freda Alston, Harold Baldwin, and Tony Rodgers Sr, and an AAU team from Sanford, NC. As a teenager, he continued with the same passion for sports at Northwood High School where he played basketball as a point guard, and football as a Quarterback for the Northwood Chargers.

Monte was employed with the Governors Club in Chapel Hill, NC for 2 years where he worked as the Wellness Center Assistant Manager, and he was in charge of court maintenance. He was a dedicated hard worker, and he enjoyed his job!

Monte was known for his infectious smile, his respectful and humble posture, and his helpful spirit. He could walk into any room, and the room would instantly light up. Monte was loved, and respected by many. He kept everyone laughing, and he always had a huge smile on his face. In his leisure time, he enjoyed writing music, drawing, and playing basketball with his friends.  

He was proceeded in death by his Maternal Great-Grandparents, Nellie Jones and Lewis Adams, and his Paternal Great-Grandparents, Ollie and Bertha Thomas.

Monte leaves to cherish, and celebrate his memories are his caring Parents Tiffany and Arthur Gunter, of Moncure NC; Sisters Camille Rozzelle, Nakayla, and Makenzie Thomas, of Moncure, NC; Brother: Jaquan Headen, of Chapel Hill, NC; Grandparents Steven and Brenda Thomas (of the home) Moncure, NC; Aunt and Uncle Ashica & Frank Cook of Conway, SC;  Great Aunts and Uncles John & Christine Thomas of Mitchellville, MD; Carolyn & Frank Penn of Roanoke, VA;  Larry & Phyllis Thomas of Hampton, VA; Margie Thomas Innis of Brooklyn, NY; Godmother Freda Alston of Pittsboro, NC; Godsisters Nicole Alston (Te) of Virginia Beach, VA; Angel Marsh of Pittsboro, NC; Godniece: Kelis Watson of Pittsboro, NC; Special Friend Dee Cross of Pittsboro, NC. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends that will miss him immensely.
