Deacon Milton Haze Brewington age 82, of Cameron, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, June 5, 2026, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.

Deacon Milton Haze Brewington, beloved son of the late Elder Henry L. Brewington, Sr. and Alice O. Moore Brewington, was born on February 26, 1944, in Harnett County, North Carolina. He peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, June 5, 2026, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Milton was one of thirteen children and was raised in a Christian home grounded in love, faith, respect, and service. He received his education in Harnett County Schools and was nurtured in the faith at White Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Lillington, North Carolina. His family's deep roots in the church extended back to its early years, with his father, Elder Henry L. Brewington, serving as one of its founding members.

Following the passing of his parents, Milton faithfully continued the Brewington family legacy at White Oak Missionary Baptist Church. Although he attended periodically for several years, he later returned as a dedicated full-time member. He became an active member of the choir, eventually serving as Choir President before being ordained and installed as a Deacon of the church. Singing was one of Milton's greatest passions, and his favorite song, "Cooling Water," became widely known throughout the community. Churches from near and far often requested his presence to minister through song, touching countless hearts with his powerful voice and sincere devotion.

Milton was known for his generous spirit and willingness to help others. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and was attentive to the needs of those around him. Whether offering wisdom, assistance, encouragement, or material support, he found joy in serving others and making a positive difference in their lives.

Milton graduated from Johnsonville High School in 1963, where he was a member of the National Farmers’ Association team (now titled Future Farmers of America (FFA). Through this organization, he and his teammates earned local and state recognition for projects involving woodworking, cabinet design, and industrial craftsmanship. As a young man, Milton also dreamed of becoming a prized heavyweight boxer, inspired by the legendary Muhammad Ali, formerly known as Cassius Clay. Although that dream was never fully realized, he found fulfillment through the extensive training he received from his father and older brothers in industrial logging and sawmill operations. With his characteristic humor, he often remarked, "Who says money doesn't grow on trees?"

Throughout his adult life, Milton demonstrated a strong work ethic and exceptional mechanical skills. He was employed by several respected companies and excelled in every role he undertook. Among his favorite employers were Carolina Power & Light in Durham, North Carolina, where he quickly advanced to the position of foreman; Kelly-Springfield Tire Company; and Lee Brick and Tile Company, where he served as a machinist operator. He took great pride in his work and valued opportunities for growth and learning.

In addition to his parents, Milton was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Wyatt Brewington; his daughter, Teresa Marcell Brewington Atkins; seven brothers, Johnny, Clyde, Willie, Floyd, Henry Jr., Benjamin, and Rolland Brewington; two sisters, Irene B. Dove and Betsy B. Hailey. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife of 62 years, Bessie Mae Brewington; one daughter, Amanda Brewington; three sons, Anthony Haze Brewington (Sheila), Derreck Brewington (Tammy), both of Cameron, North Carolina, and Elder Steven Brewington (Felicia) of Greensboro, North Carolina; and he was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Milton also leaves to cherish his memory three loving sisters: Betty Taylor of Bronx, New York; Hazel Brewington Alston of Washington, D.C.; and Alice P. Brewington of South Carolina, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. He loved his family deeply, and they, in turn, cherished him beyond measure.

Deacon Milton Haze Brewington's life was a testament to faith, family, hard work, and service. His legacy of love, generosity, and devotion to God will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him
