David Cornelius Murchison

Mr. David Cornelius Murchison, age 83, of Sanford, NC transitioned peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his residence.

David C. Murchison was born to the late George Ed Murchison and Gracie Lee Murchison in Bluefield, West Virginia on August 14, 1940.

He received his education primarily in the Lee County School System, and graduated from high school in Baltimore, Maryland.

During his early adult life, he lived and worked in Baltimore. His career included working for the Bethlehem Steel Company and the Baltimore Mass Transit Administration. While living in Baltimore, he also became an active member of the Masonic Temple.

He married his first wife, Sheila Murchison, in Baltimore, where they had two children, Sherri Murchison and Deborah Murchison.

David returned to Sanford in 1986, and in May 1996 he married his high school sweetheart, Devora Murchison. Upon relocating to Sanford, he began a career in brickmaking at Triangle Brickyard, and later at the Cherokee Brickyard. After retiring from Cherokee Brickyard, David worked as a Food Service Contractor at Fort Bragg, before fully retiring.

An avid fisherman, he enjoyed multiple fishing trips with family and friends. David loved to catch and cook fish. He was known to host an impromptu Fish Fry for his loved ones, which will be remembered, and missed by all.

David passed away from this life on April 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.

He is preceded in death and will be greeted in grace and glory by his brothers, George Murchison Jr., Tony Lee Murchison, Isaac Murchison, and Roy Covington.

He leaves to cherish and honor his memory, his loving wife of 27 years, Devora  Murchison; children, Sherri Murchison-Green ( Darryl Green), Deborah Murchison, and Phaedra Welton; grandchildren, Brandon Hobbs, Brittany Hobbs, Jasmine Green, Aaron Welton, and Trey’Je Welton; great grandchildren, Serenity Hobbs, Brielle Hobbs, Ariah Hobbs, Caylee Hobbs, Zayden Hobbs, Jayden Welton, Paris Welton, Carter Welton, and Ke’Mari Ace Welton; siblings, Alva Elliot, Barbara Thomas ( Heck Thomas ), and Vanessa Perry ( Darren Perry), and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and  friends.

Family and friends will be received at 1713 Carr Creek Rd., Sanford, NC, 27332 daily from 4pm - 8pm.
