Obituary
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; But as God calls us one by one the
Chain will link again.
On Good Friday morning, April 3, 2026, Darryl Lynn Thompson, age 68 departed from this earthly home and took flight to his eternal home surrounded by his family.
Darryl was born September 24, 1957 in Lee County, the first born child to the late Walter L. Thompson Sr., and late Ruby Powell Thompson.
Darryl attended Prevailing Life Ministries Church until his health declined. He had a deep faith in God and enjoyed reading the Bible. His life was a testament of his faith.
He worked for many years with Heins Telephone Company in Sanford, NC. He retired in 2018 from CommScope Inc., in Fuquay, NC after 32 years. His job there provided him the opportunity to travel across the country. He would often say that traveling was hard work, that he rather be home gardening and just being outside in the yard. His home was a place of comfort, peace and warmth to him.
Darryl touched the lives of many people who had the privilege of knowing him. He was always willing to lend a hand to others. His kind heart, unwavering faith, and generous spirit will be remembered forever.
Darryl found great joy in spending time with his family and took delight in cooking for them. His granddaughter, Luna brought a special joy and happiness to him, her “pupa”.
The Lord allowed Darryl time to see his new grandson, Liam. He gained a special daughter in his daughter-in-law Cecilia (CC), whom he loved as his own.
Darryl was the best husband and father to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Althea Thompson; his devoted sons, Andrew Thompson of Sanford, NC and Jeremy (Cecilia) Thompson of Knightdale, NC; his two dearly beloved grandchildren, Luna and Liam Dulay-Thompson; and Goddaughter, Faith Anna Peoples. He is also survived by his siblings: Walter Thompson Jr, Beverly (Merle) Mellette, Rev. Patti (Bishop Charles) Mellette, Gerald (Rev. Angela) Thompson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Darryl's legacy is one of grace, love and compassion that will live on in all who knew him. To the Moncure family he was known as ‘John Boy’, to the Gulf family he was ‘Ricky’, and to his family at home he was our ‘Moviestar’.
With Love, Althea, Andrew, Jeremy, Cecilia, Luna and Liam.
