Darryl “Raze” Jackson

Darryl Dwayne Jackson, affectionately known as “Wayne” “Razorback” Raze” was born on July 11, 1960, at Lee County hospital. On January 7, 2026, Darryl transitioned to eternal rest at his home on 604 S Moore St. in Sanford, NC.
He was the beloved son of Burnette Jackson Sanders and Edward Sanders. During his early years, Darryl spent much of his time with his grandparents James and Emma Jackson, with whom he shared a close and cherished bond.
Darryl graduated from Lee Senior High School, class of 1979. He was a talented athlete who participated in sports and formed many lasting friendships that remained strong until his passing.
Darryl was preceded in death by his grandparents James and Emma Jackson; his cousin, who was raised as a brother, Mike “Turnbuckle” Jackson and a special daughter, Shamiya Jennings. Many members of the Jackson family have preceded Darryl in death, and they will always be in our hearts.
Darryl worked as a forklift driver at Coty and continued in this role with several other companies during his career. Darryl was deeply devoted to the Sanford Elks Lodge, where he valued the brotherhood and carried out his responsibilities with great pride and seriousness.
Darryl’s fun side was on full display when talking about sports. A devoted ESPN fan, he loved everything related to sports. Those who knew him best will remember him as reliable, punctual, dependable, and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Darryl was a devoted son who lovingly assisted in caring for his mother until his health declined.
Darryl’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved and knew him.
Darryl leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Burnette “Jackson” Sanders and Edward Sanders; his children, Michael “Tank” Mellette and Javontae “Tae” Jackson; and his beloved grandchildren, Zamaria, Tremaine, Jaylen, Kimani, and Ariah. He is also survived by his sister, Shernita Jackson; his aunt, Margaret Jackson of Sanford, North Carolina; his uncle, Curtis Jackson of Sanford, North Carolina, his favorite niece, Summer Jackson, his best friend Rick Baldwin; and a very special friend Shanique Jennings.
