Dannie Austin

Mr. Dannie Austin, age 70, of Chapel Hill, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at his residence.

The Obituary

Dannie Austin was born April 24, 1954, in Orange County, North Carolina.

He was the only son Edker and Nellie Alston Austin.

Dannie departed this earthly life on March 6, 2025, at his residence in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

His educational journey began at Central High School in Hillsborough, North Carolina. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in Massachusetts on June 6, 1974.

While living in Massachusetts he was employed at the Hilton Inn Hotel as a cook. Upon returning to North Carolina, he worked at the Western Sizzler, KFC and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School System. He retired after over 20 years of service from UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Dannie loved fishing, playing cards, detailing cars, grilling, music and singing in the church choir. He was a very dedicated member of the First Baptist Church and could be counted on to do whatever he was asked of him. He also was a die hard UNC Tarheel fan.

Dannie was preceded in transition by his parents, brother-in-law, Bobbie Williams, and nephew, Paul Austin.

Those left to cherish his memories are his sisters; Roxie (Bob) Williams, Janet Austin and Lynette Mason of Chapel Hill, and Angela Austin of Durham, North Carolina; one aunt, Mrs. Lula Atwater and husband, Johnson of Pittsboro, North Carolina; nieces, Sharron, LaShonda, Tamala, Risha and Kimberly; great nieces and nephews; a special friend, Ms. Ella Cash and remaining relatives and friends.
