Daniel David Hadley

August 3, 1947 ~ August 23, 2020 (age 73)

Mr. Daniel David Hadley,  age 73 of Pittsboro, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at VA Hospital Durham, Durham, NC.

Lover of music, especially classical, Daniel ‘Dan’ David Hadley was born August 3, 1947, to the late John and Annie Hadley. He departed this earthly life on August 23rd at the VA hospital in Durham NC. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Thomas, William Bynum Sr., and a sister Priscilla.

Dan accepted Christ at a young age. He was baptized at Mt. Sinai AME Church of which he was a member all of his life. Dan was the organist for the senior choir for many years. Those fortunate enough to have experienced the brilliance of his musical gifts will always remember Dan’s ability to usher in Christmas with his renditions of "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" and "The Hallelujah Chorus" at the annual Christmas Eve program. Dan taught many students, young and old, how to play the piano. Dan also enjoyed writing poetry and playing with the bell ringers in Pittsboro. He cherished the medals he won at the Senior Citizen games in Pittsboro.

Dan was educated at Horton High School in Chatham County. He graduated in the class of 1965. He then attended The National School of Business in Nashville, Tennessee and received a degree in Secretarial Sciences. He was then drafted and into the US Army. After serving in the Army,  he earned a master’s degree in Piano Performance from the NC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. In 2000, he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Music Education from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. Dan spent his life sharing his love of music with his local community by teaching others and playing for local churches and ensembles.

Dan leaves to cherish his memory, one sister, Mary Johnson of Michigan; four brothers, Walker and Will of New York, Ernest of Massachusetts, and Henry (wife Hazel) of Pittsboro. He also leaves a goddaughter, Kamille Dark Dean of Greensboro and host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Dan’s kindness and musical genius will truly be missed.

A Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
