Daisy Smith Obituary

Mrs. Daisy Snipes Smith, 76, was born on May 4, 1943 in Pittsboro, North Carolina to the late Doll Fearrington and Ruth Snipes. She peacefully gained her wings and transitioned to be with her heavenly Father, in her home, on January 22, 2020.

Daisy was educated in the Orange County School System. She  was fondly remembered as the soft-spoken young woman with the contagious smile and pretty legs. She was employed with Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools for ten years at Estes Hill Elementary as a Custodian and K&W Cafeteria for twenty five years as a Dietary Server. She was a faithful, dedicated and proud employee who always smiled and never complained. She absolutely loved her community and enjoyed serving people. Daisy resided at Carolina Springs Senior Homes for over twenty years and was a friend to all. She often assisted others at Carolina Springs, especially the sick and shut in by cooking, cleaning, and running errands. During  holiday parties, Daisy was known for her dancing and being the life of the party! Prior to her stroke three years ago, she was an avid walker who walked 4-5 miles a day to Franklin Street and the  University Mall, while also visiting her mom.

Daisy loved the Lord and her family. As a young adult, she and her   husband joined Saint Joseph Methodist Church. They both sang in the choir. Later on, after the passing of her husband, Daisy joined Second Baptist Church and was a faithful and dedicated member to the end. Prior to her illness, she could be seen in church running up and down the aisles rejoicing and praising God.

Daisy married Marion Smith Jr. in 1960 and this union was blessed with four children: Faye, Antonio, Sherry, and Ranzino.

Daisy was preceded in death by her husband; Marion Smith Jr.; sisters, Ruby Dukes and Christine Fearrington, and brothers, John Robert Snipes and Johnson Fearrington.

Loved by many, she leaves to cherish her fondest memories: daughters, Faye Snipes-Prince of Chapel Hill, NC and Sherry Smith of Durham, NC; sons, Antonio Dickie Smith of Wilson, NC and Ranzino Smith of Durham, NC; sisters, Louise Snipes and Helen Snipes Turner; four grandchildren, Natasha, Deidra, Ahsatan, and Avery; five great-grandchildren; Raekwon, Najah, Nyheem, Montez, and Jayden, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
