Constance Jacobs Obituary

Ms. Constance Christine (Cole) Jacobs, age 82, of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Pruitt Health in Raleigh, NC.

Obituary

Constance Christine Cole Jacobs, affectionately known as “Connie” took her Heavenly flight on April 21, 2026. Her life was full of laughter, joy, tough love and most of all-GOD.

Connie was born on June 16, 1943, to the late David and Lossie Cole in Harnett County, Sanford, NC. It was here where she attended public schools and she obtained the nickname “Lil Bit”. This name would follow her well into adulthood.

She left home to go to Oklahoma to help her sister, Edith, with her newborn son. It was here where she met her soulmate, William “Jake” Jacobs and married on November 6, 1964. The union produced one daughter, Diane. Their union lasted 54 years until Jake was called home in 2018.

She devoted her life to Christ at an early age and became an active member of Love Grove AME Zion Church. She would go on to serve several positions and roles: Sunday School Class Leader, Senior Choir, Usher and Trustee to name a few.

She loved family and friends. She never met a stranger and everyone she met would never forget her. Even though she had only one daughter, she helped to take care of a host of children everywhere. Whether biological or spiritual, she was known as “Aunt Connie”. She would always say “I will treat children as my own so when my child is out in the world people will treat her the same.” This mandate would come to pass for Diane numerous times over.

She loved life and had fun. She began her career at Kmart in Wichita, Kansas in the late 70’s. When the family moved back to Sanford, she was already employed while the store was being built. She would go on to retire in the early 2000s only to go back to work part-time until the store permanently closed. She was a dedicated employee and responsible for getting numerous people jobs there.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband, William “Jake” Jacobs; parents, David and Lossie; brothers, Jessie, Edward, Thomas, Charles, Leland, Freeman and Delano; and one grand dog, Sasha.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Person and son-in-love, Jeff of Raleigh, NC; two grandsons, Mykael Cooper of Raleigh, NC and Tyson Holmes of Greenville, NC; two sisters, Patricia Newby (Robert) of Sanford, NC and Rev. Dr. Edith Cole of Gainesville, FL, one brother- in-love, Philip Jacobs (Johnnie Mae) of Kansas City, MO; one sister-in-love, Wilma Goodrich of Kansas City, MO; a host of grandchildren in love, relatives and friends.

She held special and unique bonds with each of her nieces and nephews. Whether she was there to uplift them or they to uplift her, the bond strengthened daily. It was through this bond during her last days, that Bobby and Levar Cole of Sanford, NC would literally drop everything at a moment’s notice to answer her call and fulfill her requests.
