Clara Blue Obituary

Mrs. Clara Belle Blue, age 98 of Cameron, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at her residence.

Clara Belle Blue was born March 14, 1924, at 4:30 am to Mountain Pearson and John Chalmers Sr., delivered by a midwife in her home.  She was the oldest of six siblings which included her brothers, Luke, Samuel Lee, Jesse Lee, John Jr., and JT.  She attended Lee County schools but did not complete her schooling.  As the only girl, she raised her brothers until she married James Eddie Blue on April 1, 1937. They had two daughters: Marlene Blue and Dora Jean Robinson (both deceased).

At age 22, she moved to New York City and worked for Budwick Laundry Company in Harlem for over ten years.   Thereafter, she decided to broaden her skills and attended APEX Beauty School and successfully practiced cosmetology for two years.  During this time, she separated from her husband and met the love of her life, John Scott.  They ran a convenience store together in Harlem for over 30 years. She continued to run the store after his death, and until her retirement to North Carolina in 2000.

She enjoyed playing the lotto and passed her spare time playing the slot machines wherever she went.  She loved to cook, tell stories, and spend time with family. During her 98 years, she never learned to drive or had the need to obtain a driver's license.  She had family and friends to drive her anywhere she wanted to go. She reconnected with the church when she moved to North Carolina where she joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church.

Clara leaves to cherish her memories, her granddaughter, Dr. Danielle Marlene Robinson, and her husband Reverend Dwayne McClary (Norwalk, CT); grandson, Bevo Cocking (Harlem, NY); great-grandchildren, Tyrese Quinshaun Cocking (Harlem, NY), Brett Jones (Harlem, NY) and Myles Robinson McClary (Norwalk, CT); Great-great granddaughter, Clara Jean Cocking (Boston, MA), her brother Jesse Lee Chalmers (Sanford, NC) and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
