Mr. Charlie Louis Bland, age 77 of Pittsboro, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Chatham Hospital, Siler City, NC.
The Obituary
A quiet, reserved spirit came to this earth on January 25, 1946. Charlie Louis Bland, was the oldest yet most soft-spoken child of the late Sophia Mae Bland Lynn. Charlie’s spirit peacefully returned home to the Lord on January 30, 2023, just five days after his 77th birthday.
Charlie was a proud graduate of the Class of 1964 Horton High School Thunderbolts. Following graduation, he began his career as an OR Tech at UNC Hospital, eventually retiring after 31 years of service. A man with a strong work ethic and many talents, Charlie also worked at the old Tex-Co Service Station, delivered eggs, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Chatham County School Systems as well in the automotive field with NAPA and Charles Whitaker Auto Repair. Charlie was also affiliated with St. Paul Lodge 147 Pittsboro.
As a young child, Charlie joined Mt. Sinai AME Church where he sang in the Male Chorus and also served as an usher. You could see Charlie faithfully standing his post at the doors of the sanctuary until he went home to care for his ailing wife. Charlie married Bertha Lassiter Bland in 1987. Their 32 years of love and devotion was constant and Charlie demonstrated that love as he cared for her throughout her illness until her death. Though he never had biological children, his union with Bert gave him two children as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish his loving memories are two sisters, Barbara Sue Lawes (Danny) and Mary Ruth Headen; two brothers, Robert (Easter) and Howard (Cynthia); two children Saundra Tammy Gardner (Charles) and Samuel Lassiter. His grandchildren Tana Nettey (Tetteh), Justin Lassiter, Ashley Jones (Cliff), Chelsea Gardner, Nicholas Lassiter and his great-grandchildren Imani Nettey and Carter Jones loved their Papa. Charlie’s nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will forever remember his quiet, yet impactful spirit.
“Well done thy good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of the Lord.” Matthew 25:23
