Charles Cox Obituary

Mr. Charles Edward Cox, age 75 of Broadway, NC transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Charles Edward Cox, 75, unexpectedly passed Saturday morning May 15, 2021 at the home of Pastors Harrison and Cathy Ray in Harnett County.  He was born August 13, 1945, to proud parents the late Walter and Rena McIver Cox. God saw him getting tired and whispered to him, “Come unto me my son who is heavy laden, and I will give you REST”, he then departed from this earthly home and took flight to his eternal home.

Charles graduated from Shawtown High School with the class of 1963. After graduation, Charles joined the military to serve his country in the United State Army for three years. He was honorably discharged as Specialist E-4 Cook.  He was a member of Cameron Grove AME Zion Church where he was a member of the Lay Council and Men’s Fellowship.  Charles was a faithful supporter of his sister’s church, Gods’ Fellowship Christian Center with his presence and donations. He worked faithfully with the Food bank and fundraising projects.

Charles was well taken care of with compassion and love by his sister Cathy and her husband Harrison and his niece Lisa and her husband Charles McLeod. His favorite pastimes were doing word search puzzles and watching Westerns. He LOVED his Hardee’s biscuits and gravy, and his KFC pot pies.

He was preceded in death by one daughter Sherry McCormick Lee; his parents Walter and Rena McIver Cox, two brothers Robert and James, one sister Helen; special friends, Patricia Douglas, Josie McNeil, and Bobby Griffin.

He leaves to honor and cherish his memories: daughter Adrienne Maria Douglas of Greenville, North Carolina, two sisters Pastor Cathy Ray (Pastor Harrison) Broadway, NC and Peggy Cox, Cameron, NC: three brothers: Williams Cox (Barbara) Woodbridge, Va., Gary Cox (Carolyn) Goldston, NC and Reginald Cox, Sr. (Dreama) Broadway, NC.
