Obituary of Carolyn A. Baldwin

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”

Carolyn Ann Baldwin, 80, of Sanford was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on Sunday, March 12, 2023, following a brief illness. She was born on December 3, 1942, in Sanford to the late Charlie Baldwin Jr. and Margaret (McIver) Phillips.  She was the 5th oldest of 8 children. 

She matriculated through the schools in Lee County and attended W.B. Wicker High School.  After high school, she longed to see the city lights and moved to New York.  There, she pursued a career in manufacturing. 

She returned to Sanford where she was employed at W. Koury Company as well as at A.J. Schneierson & Son Company and retired with 20 years of service. Miss Carolyn was an expert seamstress. Well known in her community for the fabulous and one-of-a-kind outfits she made.  She had a unique eye for detail and took great pride in the clothes she created.  She supported Habitat for Humanity through many charitable actions including being a volunteer.  She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her daughter, Kim Baldwin, and two siblings, Sylvester "Red" Baldwin, and Charles "Tom" Baldwin. 

She leaves to celebrate her life her children:  Anthony (Crystal) Baldwin, Vincenta Baldwin, and Christy Baldwin; a special daughter Kenyatta Daniels; a special son James Harrington; her siblings, Barbara Abraham, Mary Johns, John Baldwin, Mae Lawson, and Rick (Sabrina) Baldwin; her life partner, Leo McGriggs; thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her sisters Mae Lawson and Mary Johns who were caregivers during her brief illness and her physician, Dr. Ikeme.

The family will be receiving family and friends at 906 Garden Street, Sanford, NC, 27330 daily from 2pm - 8pm (Mask Required).
